The number of rail users parking their cars on rented driveways instead of station parking is rising. Commuters are currently facing another rail ticket price hike in just a few weeks, so this private parking trend could be the answer to saving money. The rise in rail fares of 3.1 per cent will hit millions of commuters as they return to work in the New Year.
However, according to online parking portal YourParkingSpace.co.uk an increasing number of Brits are choosing to park on a nearby rented driveway or empty private spaces to diminish the cost of their commute to work.
One commuter currently doing this is 37-year-old business owner Tobias Jackson who commutes in to London. He’s saved £1,980 in parking fees over the last two years by parking in a private space. Tobias said:
“It's cheaper than using the station. My station's car park is only about two minutes less walk than the private space. I also use the space at weekends to avoid council car parking charges due to its central location. It's a no brainer to pay less for something as good as station parking. I'd rather be spending that money on my children or on my hobbies.”
YourParkingSpace.co.uk offers driveways and empty spaces at railway stations across the country, including near some of the UK’s busiest stations such as Brighton, Cambridge, London Victoria, Edinburgh Waverley and Manchester Piccadilly.
Harrison Woods, managing director at YourParkingSpace.co.uk, said:
“Railway stations are often surrounded by driveways and empty spaces that are available to rent, in fact, it was this opportunity that acted as the inspiration to start YourParkingSpace.co.uk some 12 years ago.”
