Sometimes we only stumble upon our car’s lesser-known features by accident. So we’ve gathered some of the handiest hidden features you didn’t know about below, check them out and see if your car has them, too!

Automatic windscreen wipers

If you’ve got your front windscreen wipers on in your Vauxhall and you put your car into reverse, your back wipers will automatically activate. Handy, right? Particularly handy as many of us forget to use the back windscreen wipers when driving in the rain.

The hidden shark design

Ok, this isn’t a handy feature, it’s more of a very random feature. If you have a Vauxhall Corsa, you might find a drawing of a shark. It’s usually found on the hinge of the glove box. Happy hunting. Legend has it that the shark was the product of a bet between two vehicle designers – what was the bet? No one knows… well, we don’t know, someone else might!

Visibility when parking

Many manufacturers including Volkswagen, Skoda and Fiat all introduced the side parking light to some of their models. So if you find yourself parked on a dark road and want to increase your car’s visibility, activate your parking lights. Activate them on one side by turning the relevant indicator on, switching your car off as usual and then locking your car.

Park on the correct side at the petrol station

Whether you’re driving a hire car or you’re just not familiar with which side the fuel cap is located on your car, there’s a handy feature to help you remember. This is only on some car models, so yours may not have this. Looking at your dashboard at the fuel gauge, there’s a small petrol pump symbol next to your fuel level. Whichever side the pump is positioned on that small symbol is the side your fuel cap is located. Some cars also have a small pointer, pointing in the direction of the fuel cap, too.

Automatic hazard lights

If you’ve got a Ford vehicle and you brake heavily your hazard lights will automatically activate. This helps warn other drivers of potential danger ahead – a handy feature to have.

Power windows

In newer car models, drivers can use the electric window buttons even when the ignition is off. Handy if you’re waiting to pick someone up and just need some fresh air. Another handy feature!
